Retail giant Amazon is said to be working on a game streaming service, if sources close to The Information (via Gamesindustry.biz) are to be believed. The game streaming service will take on Google and Microsoft’s respective game streaming services.

The sources claim that the service will not be available until 2020. Amazon is also pushing for talks with publishers to create a library which will be offered through the service.

Amazon is one of the top-three cloud players in the market, it comes as no surprise that a game streaming service is on Jeff Bezos’ list. It almost compels Amazon to push for this initiative now with the key competitors raising their own game streaming services.

Google and Microsoft may beat Amazon to the market. Google previewed its game streaming service last year with Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. And it is rumored that Microsoft will officially kick off its service with the launch of a disc-less Xbox One console in 2019.

Interesting times ahead, we can look forward to playing games regardless of the device we’re on. It also begs the question of where does it leave Sony.

The Japanese gaming giant’s PlayStation Now game streaming service isn’t something many talk about. Now with the industry shifting focus to cloud-based gamign, Sony doesn’t appear to have quite the infrastructure the top-three have at its disposal.
